DEMONICA LEADS LAKEVIEW PAST EAGLES

HUBBARD, Ohio

Nick Demonica went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs, all while striking out 14 and allowing just 2 hits and 1 earned run through 6 innings of work in the Lakeview Bulldogs (12-10) victory over the Hubbard Eagles (12-15) in the first round of the OHSAA playoffs.

After a sacrifice fly to right field that would plate the 2nd of Lakeview’s 4 first inning runs, Demonica would start his outing on the mound with an immaculate inning, striking out all three batters he faced using the minimum possible number of pitches.

Hubbard would cut the Bulldogs lead in half in the 3rd inning. An error by the second baseman allowed the Eagles leadoff runner to reach, then a walk would put runners on the corners with 1 away. After a stolen base by the runner on first, Albert Gerlick, 2 passed balls would bring across both runners to score.

The conference foes would each plate a run of their own in their respective halves of the 5thinning, letting Lakeview take a 5-3 lead into the 6th. There, the Bulldogs would take a firm hold of the game. Alex Stowe’s sacrifice fly would plate Gavin Mauger from third, then Demonica would answer the call again when he smashed a stand up 2 RBI double of the left center wall.

While Hubbard would plate one in the bottom half of the 6th, Lakeview would pour it on the 7th with another 4-run inning. The Bulldogs would hold on to their lead in the bottom half to pick up the rubber match victory, 12-4.
