CANFIELD, OH – When talking about Canfield football, the one word that seems to come to mind for most people is power. That one simple word encapsulates what the Cardinals are all about in all three phases of the game but as a program too. The Cards run the football offensively with power, defensively they swarm to the ball and tackle with power. The kicking game has power legs. All aspects of power. To get this success, it all starts up front with the offensive and defensive lines. The men in the trenches have that power and one man in particular prides himself off of getting the best blocks on offense to help his team move the ball but also getting the big stop defensively and pushing opposing linemen back on their heels, that man is senior, Landen Russell.

Landen is primarily an offensive guard and defensive tackle for the Canfield Cardinals and he loves to be a force for this team. Landen has been able to lead the Cards to a 6-0 regular season record this year and also clinch a first round bye for the playoffs. Russell has been said to have a motor that never stops and because of that he is able to lead by example on the football field and help bring the energy every single snap. Not only is Landen a big time senior leader for this Canfield team, he is also the first to always give credit to his teammates before taking it himself. He embodies the old school mentality of team success over individual success and because of that he has led the Cardinals to a great start and has them positioned for a run in the playoffs!

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down via video chat with Landen Russell this week to discuss the upcoming playoff run that the Cardinals will start this Friday against Kenston, what he thinks the Cards need to do to advance to the next round but also try to bring home a state title to Canfield, what his plans are for after high school, and much more!
