EAGLES FLY ON HOMECOMING 35-13

WARREN, OH-  The Warren JFK Eagles after a slow start soar past The Gilmour Academy Lancers
35-13 to open North Coast League White division play. After a tuff loss last week vs St Thomas
in Louisville the Eagles rebound and stay right in the thick of the division 7 region 25 playoff
race.

After Gilmour Academy punted on their first offensive series that pinned the Eagles back to
their own 4-yard line, The Eagles first offensive play resulted in a fumble as fullback Michael
Mauro was stripped of the ball on his own 4-yard line. On the next play Senior Marcus
Costabile took the ball and rumbled the 4 yards for the touchdown bouncing off JFK would-be
tacklers to put the Lancers up 7-0 1 minute and 59 seconds into the game. Less than a minute
later Junior Jessie Likens took a handoff from Senior Quarterback Christian Marantis who
had to pull down a high snap. Likens bobbed and weaved right up the middle of the field for a 46
yard touchdown run which after the extra point made the score 7-7. The Eagles had another
fumble and an interception also in the first quarter which cost them no other points.
The second quarter was a nip and tuck quarter from both teams trying to gain field position
the whole quarter. With a little over a minute left in the 2nd quarter, the JFK offense took over on
their own 14-yard line. After a 19 yard run by Junior Cameron Hollobaugh on the next play
Marantis threw a 10-yard pass that went right over the shoulder of the Lancer defender right into
the hands of Junior Gabe Green who had nobody behind and took off down the field he was
caught and taken down after a 70 yard gain to the Lancer 3 yard line. Two plays later
Hollobaugh took a direct snap in the shotgun and went untouched for a 3rd touchdown run with
:23 seconds left in the half to make the score 14-7 at halftime.

It didn’t take the Eagles long in the 3rd quarter to get on the board. As 1 minute and 5
seconds into the 3rd quarter Likens took a handoff from the Gilmour 45 yard line down the left
sideline for his 2nd touchdown of the night to make the score 21-7 after the extra point. After a
Gilmour 3 and out on their next series JFK marched down the field on the legs of Hollobaugh
and Likens and Hollobaugh scored on a 5-yard touchdown run his 2nd of the night with 6:51 left
in the 3rd quarter to make it 28-7. Gilmour then marched down the field and their quarterback,
Sophomore Dan Jevnikar overthrew his widout as the ball fell right into the arms of Green on the
JFK 3 yard line and was taken back to around the 30-yard line.

The Eagles opened up the 4th quarter with the ball and marched their way down the field
on the longest drive of the night and Likens scooted in from 2 yards out his 3rd touchdown of
the night to cap the JFK scoring and making the score 35-7. Gilmour added a touchdown with
about 6:48 left in the game as back up quarterback Sophmore Michael Sneiling connected on
an 8-yard touchdown with Junior wideout Charlie Shepard, the extra point was blocked to cap
the scoring 35-13.

Warren JFK (5-3) has another conference game at home next week vs Cleveland Central
Catholic. Gilmour (4-4) goes home to play their last conference game of the year against Villa
Angela- St. Joseph.
