EAGLES LAUNCH A PAIR OF BOMBS IN BLOWOUT OF NILES

HUBBARD, Ohio

The Hubbard Lady Eagles (3-1) softball team was firing on all cylinders in their 17-0 routing of the Niles Lady Red Dragons.

After striking the Lady Red Dragons out 1,2,3 to begin the game, the Lady Eagles proceeded to bat around the order in their bottom half of the inning, platting 8 runs in the process.

Niles would fair a little better in their second inning appearances at the plate, only striking out once, but Hubbard would keep things rolling into their half of the second.

After a single by Kailiah Gregory to start off the inning, the Lady Eagles blasted back-to-back home runs off the bats of Haley Croyle and Emily Filicky to expand their lead to 11. Not stopping there, the Lady Eagles would score 3 more runs in the inning thanks to a couple of Niles errors.

Hubbard’s Grace Narkum would then strike out the next 6 Niles batters she faced, carrying a perfect game into the start of the 5th frame. Unfortunately for Narkum, perfection was not in the cards today, as Niles’ Melius would hit a single up the middle for the Lady Red Dragons only base hit of the night.

With no elation of a perfect game, the Lady Eagles could still find satisfaction in picking up their 3rd conference win of the season, 17-0.
