EAGLES OPEN EYES WITH WIN AT URSULINE

YOUNGSTOWN OH- After a tough 11-9 finish to last year’s 2020-21 campaign, the Lady Irish were looking to get the bad taste out of their mouth with a opening night victory for the 21-22 campaign at the Cafaro Gymnasium, the Lyden Family Court.   The Lady Irish were led by their new coach Bernard Scott who has had division one basketball experience and was looking to add that tonight with this young Lady Irish team.  However, in order to do that they would have to get past the lady Eagles of Hubbard led by coach Scott Slovesko who got their first victory just a few days prior 47 to one against the lady Red Devils of Campbell.

Alayna Smith led the pack for the Lady Irish with 17 points, racking up nine below the pain in the fourth.  Lily Scott got her first opportunities as a full time starter and showed a lot of improvement playing lockdown defense early on and scoring nine points even after being a little banged up.  Others in Chelsea Johnson scored five points and Nia Burney scored four.  Marina Bellitto and Grace Leslie combined for three points.

The Lady Irish at one point were in the lead but could not hold it for long as at one point with the game being tied at 25 a piece, the Lady Eagles got a fast break and never looked back.

Sophie Murphy early on in the first quarter left with a lower body leg injury but came back in a big way, helping the Eagles out with her free throws going 10 for 15 scoring 14 points.  Peytyn Slovesko showed tough defense early on but did not score a point in the first quarter.  She bounced back in a big way scoring five in the second quarter and ending the game with 13 points.

Mary Frangos had a couple turnover and travel troubles with the pivot foot, but bounced back late going five for six on free throws and finishing with nine points.  Rheanna Barr, Grace Narkum and Livia Reese each combined for eight points as the Lady Hubbard Eagles moved to two and 0 on the season while the Lady Irish of Ursuline lost their first game, falling to 0 and one in the new Bernard Scott Campaign by the final score of 44-38.
