ENGLISH CLASS IS IN SESSION

COLUMBIANA, OH – Crestview High School’s basketball senior, Jameson English, recently shared insights into his team’s journey this season during an engaging discussion with Anthony Hartwig. With a new coaching regime under Coach Lou Mateo, the Crestview boys basketball team grappled with early-season challenges, including stagnant offense and developing trust with the incoming coaching staff. However, as the season progressed, English explained how the team grew under Mateo’s intense yet effective leadership style, saying, “After a while of him just, you know, pounding it into us like hard work, get it done… I think it finally clicked.”

A balanced offensive roster featuring athletes like Jonathan Best, Tyler Savage, and young talents like Hayden Patron has helped Crestview find its rhythm. The Rebels’ confidence is at a high as they head into tournament play, with English emphasizing a match-by-match mentality as pivotal to their mindset. Reflecting on the honor of representing Crestview, English praised the community’s close-knit nature and unwavering support, noting the electric atmosphere they create every game night in the Rebel Dome.

Jameson also reflected on his growth as both player and leader over his four years at Crestview. Citing influences from his football coach, Coach Perry, he highlighted lessons in discipline and the importance of maintaining composure as vital to his development as a leader. English expressed pride in his achievements, notably last year’s playoff victory over East Palestine, a testament to his and his team’s hard work and dedication. With plans to savor his final moments on the court, English looks forward to carrying forward the indelible experiences and lessons learned from his high school sports journey.
