FALCONS SEE THEIR RUN COME TO A CLOSE

By Michael Wolfgang

The 2023 season for Austintown Fitch came to a close Tuesday night after Walsh Jesuit knocked them out to win 9-0.

Fitch fell behind by five runs early on and could never get things going to come up with a response to the Walsh eruption. Mason Eckelman, Matthew Serdinak, and Gavin Gubanyor came up with big hits, RBI’s, and lengthy at bats in the bottom of the first to get out in front and work the arm of Fitch starter Jack Knight who’s outing only lasted two and a third innings and was tagged with the loss.

A four run third inning for Walsh was headlined by a double by Eckelman that scored two of those four runs. Ryan Piech was awarded the win on the mound. Piech gave Walsh six high quality innings, allowing those zero runs on just one hit for Fitch with a dazzling 12 strikeouts.

A balanced offensive attack for Walsh was what ultimately propelled them to victory as the team dropped in ten hits Eckelman, Serdinak Zachary Halligan, and John Simecek all contributing with multi-hit games at the plate.
