G-MEN WALK IT OFF TO A TITLE GAME
NEW SPRINGFIELD OH- Monday’s showdown went right down to the last swing, as Garfield snagged a walk-off win 4-3 against Chagrin Falls in the district semifinals. The game was knotted up at three all when Aidan Hill stepped up and delivered a sacrifice fly in the clutch, bringing in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Chagrin Falls made their mark early, getting on the scoreboard in the second inning with some sharp hitting by Sven Nielsen who doubled, and Oliver Tepper, who worked a walk, each driving in a run.
The G-Men came roaring back in the fifth, tying it up thanks to key hits by Brandyn Bogucki and Eric Geddes, along with a crucial walk drawn by Leo Grandizio. Geddes also came through big on the mound, shutting down Chagrin Falls in the last innings by keeping them hitless and runless over his 1.1 innings, punching out four.
Jack Watson ended up wearing the loss for Chagrin Falls after giving up the final run. Starting for Garfield, Hill handled the bulk of the game, throwing 5.2 innings with nine Ks, despite allowing a couple of hits and three runs.
At the plate, Bogucki led Garfield with two hits in his three at bats, showing off his eye with a couple of crucial knocks. Garrett Warnick was the patience king, drawing two walks in the game. The whole Garfield squad showed some discipline, working a total of seven walks.
For Chagrin Falls, Nielsen and Henry Cimperman managed to grab a hit each, with Nielsen and Brandt Stevens each knocking in a run. Nielsen also showed patience, earning a couple of walks himself.
With this win under their belts, Garfield is now set to face South Range in the District Championship. The showdown is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:00 PM at Springfield. The stakes are high, and the anticipation is even higher as they look to capture the district crown.
