GARFIELD ABLE TO GRAB TIGHT WIN
GARRETTSVILLE OH- Garfield and Crestview went toe-to-toe in a good old-fashioned pitchers’ duel Wednesday, but it was Garfield that finally broke through late to grab a 1-0 win.
With zeros on the board heading into the bottom of the sixth, Emily Knerem stepped in and delivered the game’s only big swing—a solo shot to center that cleared the fence and cracked the scoreless tie wide open.
Both pitchers were dialed in. Garfield’s Olivia Bailey went the distance, tossing a seven-inning shutout while scattering six hits and striking out six. She didn’t flinch, even with traffic on the bases. Crestview’s starter held her own too, giving up just one run on three hits in six innings, striking out four.
Garfield’s offense was limited, but Knerem’s homer was all they needed. She, Olivia Zicari, and Charlee Hill each notched a hit, and the defense backed Bailey up with a clean sheet—no errors all game.
Crestview had chances, with six different players picking up hits, but they just couldn’t string anything together against Bailey. Garfield heads to Brookfield on Monday looking to keep the momentum rolling.
