GARFIELD BRINGING THE HEAT

GARRETTSVILLE OH- Despite allowing three runs in the first inning, Garfield defeated Newton Falls 14-4 on Saturday. Newton Falls scored its runs on a fielder’s choice by Carter Rapczak.

Newton Falls opened up scoring in the first inning, when an error scored one run.

The G-Men pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Brandyn Bogucki grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Vinnie Grandizio singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

The G-Men tallied five runs in the fifth inning. They put the pressure on, lead by singles by Eric Geddes, Grandizio, Tyler Lutz, Carter Bates, and Ian Hunt.

Geddes pitched the G-Men to victory. Geddes allowed seven hits and four runs over six innings, striking out ten and walking one.

Owen Gazda took the loss for Newton Falls. The pitcher allowed five hits and four runs over two innings, striking out two and walking one.

The G-Men totaled 17 hits. Geddes, Hunt, Aiden Hill, Grandizio, and Leo Grandizio each managed multiple hits. Geddes with three hits in four at bats.

Newton Falls scattered seven hits in the game. Rapczak and Trevor Ruscoe all collected multiple hits.
