GARFIELD FINDS SUCCESS IN RETURN TO ACTION
GARRETTSVILLE OH- Juliana Genovese was lights out in the circle Tuesday, striking out 14 and leading Garfield to a 14-3 run-rule win over Newton Falls in five innings.
Newton Falls managed to strike first with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but that lead didn’t last long. Garfield came out swinging in the bottom half, cashing in on an error to plate two, then getting RBI knocks from Genovese and Olivia Zicari to jump in front.
The second inning is where the floodgates opened. Garfield dropped five more, capitalizing on another Newton Falls miscue and stringing together some timely hits. Emily Knerem drove in a pair, Genovese picked up another RBI on a liner, and Olivia Bailey added to the damage with a base knock.
Kolby Fresch and Bailey kept the rally going in the third with a couple more RBIs, pushing the lead out of reach.
Genovese handled the rest, mowing down hitters with ease and giving up just five hits and three runs while walking only one. Her fastball was popping and the strikeout tally told the story—14 punchouts in five innings.
At the plate, Garfield racked up 10 hits. Genovese, Bailey, and Brooke Hrabak each had two knocks, while Genovese and Knerem both drove in three. Fresch swiped a pair of bags as the G-Men stayed aggressive on the bases all night, tallying five steals overall.
Newton Falls got some life from Kylee Lance, who led them with two hits, and early RBIs from Madison Davis and Natalee Henderson, but the Tigers couldn’t match Garfield’s firepower. Next up, Garfield heads to Crestview on Monday looking to keep the momentum rolling.
