GAVIN GIVES IT ALL

SALEM OH- It’s been a trying season for the Salem baseball team. After the year got off to a start that no one wanted to see, they found fire and mounted a huge winning streak. Now, their goal is to carry as much momentum into the postseason as possible. Gavin Wilms is good at carrying large objects, and he’ll try to shoulder a big part of the team’s success going forward.

Wilms does a lot of great work on the mound for a Salem team who thrives on their pitching staff. When you see Gavin get the start, you just know that Salem is going to have an opportunity to win the game. That’s what Wilms does best, he keeps his team in games. And at the end of the day, that’s the first job of a starting pitcher. It goes beyond the flashy strikeout numbers, and no hitters, which Wilms is more than capable of doing. However, at his core he is simply a strong competitor that will do whatever it takes to help his team put their best foot forward.

Wilms currently carries the best ERA on the team with a clip of 1.17.  That’s on a pitching staff that has four pitchers with ERA’s under 3.  Safe to say Wilms and his partners are a tough puzzle to crack. For Gavin, having multiple arms that can hold their own takes a lot of pressure off of him to be perfect in every outing.

We got Gavin to join Running Point this week to tell us all about his baseball journey. He talks with Anthony Romo, Richie Juliano, and Anthony Hartwig about how his team turned the ship around, what his favorite things are about Salem and so much more. So sit down with a nice beverage and catch up with Salem baseball in their latest player profile.
