GIRARD CAN’T CATCH UP TO JEFFERSON

JEFFERSON, OH- Girard watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 3-0 loss to Jefferson Area on Tuesday. Jefferson Area scored on a stolen base by Seve Cantini in the first inning and a single by Jack Detweiler in the second inning.

Although the pitching was strong on both sides Jefferson Area pitchers struck out 14, while Girard Indians Varsity only sat down seven.

The only hit for Girard was a single by Braydon Freeland in the second inning.

Andrew Vance led Jefferson to victory on the mound. He went seven innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out 14 and walking one, while throwing his hat in the ring for a Big Dogs of the Valley nomination in Week 3.

Devin Dutton took the loss for Girard. Pitching his tail off, Dutton went four innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out four and walking one.

Marc Woods went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Jefferson in hits. Jefferson Area was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Gary Ghiz made the most plays with 14.
