GIRARD FILLS UP THE STAT SHEET
GIRARD OH- Girard battled past Chaney 6-4 on Friday, grinding out a win at home. The Indians struck first in the opening inning, getting on the board with a sac fly to grab an early 1-0 lead.
Chaney punched back in the third, putting up a crooked number to take a 4-1 lead. A double, a groundout, and a single brought three runs across for the visitors.
Girard shook it off and answered in the fifth. An error opened the door for two runs to score, then a perfect sac bunt brought home the go-ahead run, and a clutch RBI single padded the lead.
Dominic Phillips slammed the door on the mound for Girard, tossing four no-hit innings, striking out seven and walking two to pick up the win. Santino Barone started the game, giving up two hits and three runs over two innings. Joe Marsco chipped in out of the pen.
Girard’s offense stayed aggressive, with Ja’den Royal leading the way, going 2-for-2 at the plate. The Indians made some noise on the basepaths too, swiping eight bags, with Marsco and Zach Ward each grabbing multiple steals. They even turned a rare triple play to snuff out a Chaney rally.
Chaney’s leadoff man led their offense with two hits, while others chipped in with RBIs. Chaney showed some patience too, working eight walks and stealing four bases, but couldn’t string enough together late to close the gap.
