HAMPTON GIVES POWER TO THE VIKINGS
HARTVILLE OH- Jolean Hampton had herself a day Friday, driving in four runs on three hits to lead Waterloo to a 14-2 beatdown over Lake Center Christian.
Hampton wasted no time getting the Vikings rolling, launching a solo shot to left in the top of the first.
Waterloo blew the game wide open in the second, pushing across seven runs on just three hits. Kaylynn Esola reached on a fielder’s choice to score one, an error plated another, Brilyn Eddy dropped a two-run single into the outfield, Hampton worked a bases-loaded walk, and Regan Heilman laced a two-run single to keep the rally going.
The Vikings weren’t done either — in the third, Hampton ripped a three-run double and Kristlyn Kehrer followed with an RBI single to stretch the lead even more.
Hampton did damage in the circle too, throwing three shutout innings, giving up just one hit, striking out six, and walking none to grab the win. Kehrer came on in relief to close it down. Shelby McCartney took the loss for Lake Center, giving up 12 runs — only five earned — over three innings.
At the plate, Heilman and Kehrer each picked up multiple hits, while Brooke May showed patience, drawing two of Waterloo’s five walks. The Vikings stayed sharp in the field too, turning a double play and not committing a single error. Bayley English led the defense with six chances.
For Lake Center Christian, Kaya Zook drove in both of their runs out of the nine-hole, and Jillian Miller stayed perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2.
