HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF IN CANFIELD WEST BRANCH MATCHUP

BOARDMAN OH- Canfield and West Branch are all too familiar with each other, especially cod tournament time. Canfield has been haunting the Warriors for three years in tournament action. In 2019, the Cardinals knocked out West Branch 2-0 in a District Championship, last season Canfield won in the sectional final on penalty kicks.  This year was the biggest stage yet for the showdown in the regional semifinals. History repeat itself as Canfield once again won the match in the penalty kick round.

By the time regulation was finished it was tied 1-1. Overtime didn’t solve the issue, neither team could punch through.   Canfield then defeated West Branch 6-5 on penalty kicks to survive the thriller and improve to 17-2-1.  Canfield’s lone goal was scored by Maci Toporcer.  Canfield Outshot West Branch 24-14 on the night putting a lot of pressure on their defense. Canfield goalie Lolo Padget had 9 saves in the net.  The Warriors only goal of the night was scored by Daphne Snyder. It put the Warriors on top to start the game.

Canfield moves on to the regional championship on Saturday. They will be heading up against Bay Village Bay at 11:00 at Twinsburg High School.  West Branch finishes the year with just 1 loss, and their program’s first District Championship.
