HOBAN GETS LATE RUNS TO SQUEEZE BY

AKRON OH-  Archbishop Hoban leaned on big swings and timely hits to knock off St. Edward 7-5 on Tuesday in a back-and-forth battle.

Andrew Karhoff was locked in at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and a pair of singles. His sixth-inning triple down the right field line sparked the go-ahead rally that Hoban used to slam the door on the Eagles.

Hoban wasted no time getting the sticks going. Breyan Stewart ripped a two-run double in the first, followed by a Blake Bantum RBI single to make it 3-0. Stewart struck again in the second with another double, and Colt Andrews added an RBI single to stretch the Knights’ lead to 5-0.

St. Edward didn’t stay quiet for long. Hunter Mayville launched a game-tying bomb to right in the fifth, capping off a rally that knotted things up at five.

But Hoban had the last word. Karhoff’s triple gave them the edge, and a wild pitch tacked on an insurance run. Matthew Ramsey handled business out of the pen, giving up just one hit and one run in two innings of work while fanning three. Dashel Hemlick came in and shut it down for the save.

Stewart finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Hoban racked up nine hits as a team. On the flip side, Leo Bartolone knocked in two for St. Ed’s, and Brayden Page went 2-for-2 out of the nine-hole. The Eagles tried to create chaos on the base paths with four steals, including two by Mayville, but Hoban’s late push was too much. Next up, Hoban hosts Walsh Jesuit on Thursday.
