HOFFMAN GETS RECORD BREAKING WIN AT HUBBARD

HUBBARD, Ohio –
Coming into the night off of three straight weeks of 30+ point performances, the Hubbard Eagles (8-0) were looking to dominate their injury plagued rival Girard Indians (4-4).
THE GAME
The Indians came out inspired on their opening drive, moving the ball at will before ultimately being stopped on 4th and 1 at the Hubbard 33-yard-line.
Eight plays later and the Eagles saw their first score of the night. Lining Caffey up in the right H-back position, the Eagles motioned TC into the backfield to take a handoff from quarterback Nick Hendrix, then promptly delivering a second handoff to Ben Wilcox coming back across. Wilcox would bounce it to the outside before stiff arming a defender and getting in for the score.
Pearson’s Indians needed little time to respond, taking just over three and a half minutes to knot things up at eight. Hubbard would see success on their next drive before penalties would kill the series, forcing the Eagles to punt it away.
Caffey, Hubbard’s rugby style punter, would pin the Indians at their own one. A quick three and out accompanied by a poor punt gave Hubbard good field position, taking over at the Girard forty-six.
Five plays later and Caffey would score form a yard out for his first touchdown on the night, taking us into the half with the score at 15-8.
After a struggling first half, the Eagles came out of the halftime locker room all systems go. Hubbard needed just six plays and a little under three minutes to make it a two-score game.
Good kickoff coverage from the Eagles accompanied by some stout defensive play forced another Girard three and out. Sending pressure on the Girard quick kick, Alex Goodrich would block the Indian punt before Nicky VanSuch would scoop it and score it from fourteen yards out. However, there was heartbreak for the senior VanSuch, as a block in the back call would wipe the score off the board.
Nonetheless, Hubbard would still get points on the board, as the ensuing TC Caffey tout from eighteen yards out would go for the final score of the night for the Eagles.
Girard would score once more in the game on a Dom Malito ninety-four touchdown reception, bringing the score to its final, 29-15.
THE MILESTONE
With the Hubbard victory, head coach Brian Hoffman has cemented himself as the winningest coach in Hubbard football history, breaking his tie with Eagle legend Jeff Bayuk. Hoffman, a 1989 graduate of Hubbard High School, is in his fifteenth year at the helm of the Eagle program. Coach Hoff has led his teams to the playoffs 11 times, amounting a postseason record of 10-11, and has reached the regional final on three separate occasions. Hoffman has sent countless players to the division one collegiate ranks, a few of which who went on to the National Football League.
