HOPFENZIZ DELIVERS AS COLUMBIANA CLIPS STRUTHERS

STRUTHERS, OH- Columbiana (12-9) came away with a 5-3 victory over Struthers Wednesday afternoon at Cene Park.  Ryan Fahs picked up his fourth win of the year with the complete game victory.  Fahs allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out five and walking only one.

With the game tied at 2-2 heading into the seventh, the Clippers rallied for three runs to take the lead for good.  Seth Ross singled to shortstop and Chase Franken followed with a walk.  After both players moved up on a wild pitch Struthers was forced to bring their infield in.  Evan Kenneally took advantage- ripping a single between first and second bringing home Ross and giving the Clippers the lead.  After a Fahs line out, Erik Hopfenziz came up big with a flair into left that gave the Clippers all the runs they would need.

On the day, Kenneally led the way with three hits and a sacrifice fly.   Hopfenziz had two hits and the big seventh inning RBI.  Franken finished the day 1-2 with two walks and scored three runs.

Columbiana will travel to Akron tonight to take on Western Reserve Academy at Canal Park home of the Akron Rubberducks.  Game time is set for 7:00 PM and admission is FREE to all fans.
