HORNETS STING LABRAE TO ADVANCE

Gianna Cantini would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Tuesday, driving in five on three hits to lead Kirtland past LaBrae 13-5. Cantini drove in runs on a double in the second and a home run in the fourth.

Kirtland fired up the offense in the first inning, when Bella Hostutler doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The Hornets put up four runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower was led by Madison Matijevic and Cantini, all driving in runs in the frame.

Cantini was credited with the victory for Kirtland. The righthander went seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking one.

Desi Allen took the loss for LaBrae. The hurler lasted one and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while walking zero.

Kirtland smacked one home run on the day. Cantini had a homer in the fourth inning.

Kirtland had 17 hits in the game. Hostutler, Matijevic, Cantini, Gianna DiFranco, and Chloe Ungrady each collected multiple hits. DiFranco, Cantini, Matijevic, and Hostutler each collected three hits to lead. .

Aryana Hartman led LaBrae with three hits in four at bats.

Kirtland advances to travel to Waterloo on Thursday. LaBrae ends their tournament run. They still have to make up league games with Newton Falls and Crestview.
