HUBBARD BRINGS IN THE NEW YEAR WITH UPSET OF LAKEVIEW

HUBBARD OH- Hubbard and Lakeview squared off Thursday night, each with something to prove. Lakeview came in riding high, unbeaten in the NE8 and off to a stellar start. Meanwhile, Hubbard was battling through a five-game skid, trying to shake off a tough stretch after opening the season 4-1. When the dust settled, it was Hubbard who flipped the script, grinding out a 46-40 upset win to hand Lakeview its first conference loss of the year.

The Eagles were fueled by Khamyah Howell, who poured in 16 points and hustled all night long. Jillian Palumbo added 14 clutch points, keeping the offense on track, while Layla Songer chipped in 9 points and did the dirty work inside. On the other side, Lakeview’s Sophie Irwin was lights-out from beyond the arc, hitting four threes on her way to a team-high 13 points. Mack Stowe chipped in 12 points with a solid performance down low, and Kalyssa Werner added 5 points in a scrappy effort.

Hubbard looks to keep the momentum alive Saturday when they host Badger. Lakeview, on the other hand, will try to regroup Friday with a non-conference matchup on the road against Brookfield. Let’s see how both teams respond.
