HUBBARD HANGS ON AGAINST HORNETS

HUBBARD OH-  Hubbard built a big lead early and held off a late push from Hickory to pull out a 6-4 win Monday.

The Eagles jumped on the board in the first when Haleigh Taylor lined a single to center to bring in a run, and a Hickory error made it 2-0. They kept the pressure on in the second, stacking up three more runs. Lauren Komorek crushed a two-run bomb to center, and Ashley Masluk followed it up with an RBI single. Komorek stayed hot in the third, ripping a double down the line to stretch the lead to 6-0.

Hickory didn’t go away quietly. They chipped away with a sac bunt, a base knock, an error, and a groundout to make it a ballgame late, but Hubbard slammed the door shut when it mattered most.

Kaylee Schultz got the win, gutting it out across seven innings. She gave up eight hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out six and walking five. Guiliana Palazzo took the loss for Hickory, giving up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits over six innings.

Hubbard finished with 10 hits on the day. Komorek went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Layla Songer stayed hot with a 3-for-4 game at the plate, and Masluk added a pair of hits of her own.

For Hickory, Palazzo knocked in two and went 2-for-4. Hand led them with three hits, and Layla McClung showed good patience, drawing three walks. Next up, Hubbard gets back after it Thursday against LaBrae.
