HUBBARD NEVER STOPS FIGHTING

HUBBARD OH— If you like offense, Monday’s clash between Hubbard and Girard delivered the goods. The Eagles and Indians combined for 24 runs and 24 hits, but it was Hubbard who came out on top with a 14-10 win in a game that saw more momentum swings than a backyard seesaw.

Girard struck first, but Hubbard didn’t waste time answering. A triple from Layla Songer, a groundout RBI by Ashley Masluk, and a two-run single from Cara Green gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead after one. Emalee Warren and Green tacked on two more in the second to stretch it to 6-2. Then things got loud.

Girard stormed back in the fifth with six runs on six hits, highlighted by a three-run double from Ava Serrano that flipped the game to 8-7. But Hubbard had the final say in that frame—Lauren Komorek tied it with a base knock, Songer lifted a sac fly, and Haleigh Taylor cranked a homer to dead center to swing it back in the Eagles’ favor, 10-8.

Girard evened things up again in the sixth, but Hubbard responded once more. A sac fly from Kaylee Schultz, an error, and a clutch two-run double from Songer slammed the door.

Schultz took care of business in the circle the rest of the way, locking down the final outs to get the win. She tossed 2.1 innings, giving up just two hits and a pair of runs. Taylor started the game for the Eagles, striking out five over four-plus frames.

At the plate, Hubbard’s sticks were hot. Green and Komorek each had three hits, while Songer drove in four. Warren and Taylor chipped in with multi-hit days of their own.

Girard’s bats weren’t quiet either—Serrano knocked in three, and Kyra Bell, Gabby Doran, Brooklyn Broll, and Quinn Wilster all collected a pair of hits. Wilster also swiped four bags as Girard ran wild on the basepaths. These two go at it again Tuesday, this time with Girard hosting.
