The South Range volleyball team dropped a four set match to Girard Tuesday night (25-23 16-25 17-25 21-25).
Girard got out to a strong start in set one holding at least a 3 point lead most of the way. The Raiders caught just to stay in striking distance not letting the lead get larger than 5. Late in the set, Girard have the Raiders an opening , and they took it. They went on a 12-6 run to close a set one victory 25-23.
The power of Girard, especially from the service line started to take its toll on the Raiders in set two. Natalie Pallone served up a big rally in the middle of the set giving the Indians control in the set. Helped out by 5 service errors in the set by the Raiders, Girard cruised to a set two win. 25-16.
The defense of the Indians led by senior captain Lexi Cochran was a clear advantage as the third set went on. Cochran and the Indians back row made kills come at a premium for the Raiders offense. Attack errors also hurt the Raiders, who hit in the negatives for the set. The Indians rolled again 25-17.
In set 4 both teams started shaky. Trading service errors, or attack errors leaving the set tied for the first 10 points. However, with Natalie Pallone serving another big rally Girard was able to gain a comfortable lead. The Raiders were able to come all the way back though using soft touches at the net to neutralize the Indian block. Girard was able to buckle down and get 5 of the last 6 points and seal the match with a 25-21 win in set four.
Anna Primavera had 10 kills for the Raiders, Emily Irons had 21 assists, and Reagan Irons had 13 digs.
The Raiders return to action Wednesday traveling to Boardman. Girard welcomes Poland on Thursday.
