INDIANS WIN TOUGH BATTLE WITH JEFFERSON

Girard beat Jefferson Area 5-3 on Monday.

Jefferson Area fired up the offense in the first inning. Adrienne Smith grounded out, scoring one run.

The Indians pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth McKayla Durr singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, Allison Durkin laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, and Aly Wakefield singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Emily Rosace led Girard to victory in the circle. The righthander surrendered three runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Sammi Speakman took the loss for Jefferson Area. The bulldog surrendered five runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Girard had nine hits in the game. Durr, Seyhan Dede, and Sophie Griffith each racked up multiple hits. Griffith, Dede, and Durr each managed two hits to lead.
