IRISH BURNS FIRELANDS IN EXTRA FRAMES

STRUTHERS, OH- The Cardiac Kids have returned.  This time they’re wearing green and gold.

The Ursuline Irish have a flair for the dramatic, and they posted up another walk-off winner on Saturday night in game two of their doubleheader at the Bob Cene High School Tournament winning 7-6 over Firelands.

Freshman Brady Shannon would do the honors as he roped a pitch into right-center field to score the runner, and end the game.  Shannon would finish the game 2-4 for the Irish.  Also contributing a .500 night was this week’s Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley, Vince Armeni, who went 2-4 and accounted for two runs.

On the bump, Glenn Griswold started, and worked 4 2/3 innings for the Coach Weymer, walking 4 and striking out 6.  While Dan Yoder came in to shut things down, giving up no earned runs and fanned 6 batters.

The Irish were set to play Benedictine on Sunday before play was postponed due to weather.  Cene Park is working toward a possible makeup date for the final games of the tournament.
