IRISH DOMINATE CONFERENCE RIVAL

STRUTHERS OH- Ursuline’s three pitchers didn’t allow a single hit, as the Irish defeated Youngstown East 19-0 on Wednesday. Jake Bednar got a strike out to get the last out of the game.

Tom Groner led Ursuline to victory by driving in four runs. Groner went 3-for-3 at the plate. Groner drove in runs on a triple in the first, a walk in the third, and a single in the fourth.

The Irish got things moving in the first inning. Groner tripled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.

Ursuline put up seven runs in the fourth inning. The batters contributing to the big inning included Louie Dellimuti, Groner, Joe Balog, and Thomas Pesa, all driving in runs in the frame.

Anthony Triveri pitched the Irish to victory. The pitcher lasted two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero. Nick Bako and Bednar entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Ursuline tallied 18 hits. Groner, Bednar, Marc Manning, and Dellimuti all managed multiple hits. Manning, Bednar, and Groner each managed three hits to lead the way. Ursuline was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Pesa made the most plays with 14.
