IRISH FIGHT TO THE END

By Tim Corso
ELYRIA OH- Ursuline fell to Toledo Central Catholic 7-6 in State Semifinal action Friday night.

In what was a long standing defensive battle, Ursuline held Toledo Central Catholic scoreless for the first 47 minutes and 27 seconds of the game.

However, all that mattered was the final 33 seconds when Sophmore quarterback Ali Beydoun connected with Junior Preston Fryzel, who used all 6 foot 4 of his frame to haul in a perfectly thrown ball to give Toledo the only score they needed. Both defenses played tenaciously all night.

Both forced three turnovers, most in their own territory defending a short field.  Ursuline had 33.7 seconds left when to take the lead in the final frame.

DC Ferrell found Tairan Davis for 24 yards on the first play before three plays later he found Devonte Taylor for 11 yards to set up an Anthony Tabak field goal attempt with 2.9 seconds left. Tabak’s kick was wide left and short of going through, ending a terrific Ursuline campaign in 2024. Ursuline finished 13-2, 3-0

Toledo Central Catholic will advance to the Division 3 State Championship game to take on Columbus Watterson for the second straight year.
