IRISH PITCH A SHUTOUT

By Michael Wolfgang

COLUMBIANA, OHIO – Pitching wins games, it’s the name of the game as we often hear. John Cambert of Ursuline didn’t allow a single run against Heartland Christian, tossing a complete game shutout and leading the Irish to a 7-0 victory on Thursday.

Ursuline drew first blood in the top of the first inning when Tom Groner drove in one run on an RBI single. Heartland Christian kept the Ursuline offense at bay, only allowing one run in the first and second innings. The score was 2-0 most of the way until Ursuline posted five runs in the seventh inning. Tom Groner, Dylan Casey, Cambert, and Andrew Kirila powered the big inning with RBIs.

The final line for Cambert in his complete game, seven inning shutout was one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking one batter, coming out as the winning pitcher on the night. Ursuline stays red hot, clinching their sixth consecutive victory with the win.

They will be back in action Friday in hopes to extend their winning to seven games as they visit Hubbard at 5:00 p.m.
