IRISH RUN AWAY WITH DISTRICT CROWN

Ursuline won big over Newton Falls 15-1 on Thursday to win the 2021 Youngstown District Championship.

Ursuline got on the board in the first inning. Paige Ogden drove in one when she singled.

Ursuline tallied seven runs in the fourth inning. Their offense in the inning came from doubles by Julia Nutter, Maris Barbato, and Ogden , singles by Alyssa Sheely and Mia Opalick, and a sac fly by Layni Bednar.

Ogden earned the win for the Irish. The ace surrendered one run on one hit over five innings, striking out six and walking one.

Sophia Tvorach was in the circle for Newton Falls. The pitcher lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing 13 hits and 15 runs while striking out three. Chloe Butler threw one-third of an inning out of the bullpen.

Ursuline had 14 hits in the game. Ogden , Sheely, Nutter, and Barbato all collected multiple hits. Sheely and Ogden each collected three hits to lead. Sheely led the Irish with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five total stolen bases.

Zoe McElrath led Newton Falls with one hit in two at bats.
