IRISH TAKE ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS A DISTRICT TITLE

Ursuline defeated Cardinal 3-0 on Monday to advance in the district tournament.  Two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Danny Smith induced a double-play from Jackson Puruczky to finish off the game.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Ursuline pitchers struck out ten, while Cardinal pitchers sat down eight.

One bright spot for the Huskies was a single by Troy Domen in the fourth inning.

Andrew Kirila was the winning pitcher for Ursuline. Kirila lasted five and a third innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one. Smith threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Jake Bean took the loss for Cardinal. The hurler allowed nine hits and three runs over five and a third innings, striking out six and walking one.

The Irish racked up nine hits. Nick Bako, Tom Groner, and Marc Manning each managed multiple hits. Bako led with three hits in three at bats.

Ty Zeigler went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Cardinal  in hits.
