IRVING LEAPS AND BOUNDS ABOVE THE REST

YOUNGSTOWN OH- The Ursuline Irish enjoyed a nice off week after a surprising cancellation against the Chaney Cowboys. With that, the players got extra practice in and some more time in the weight room. One of those players is senior wide receiver and defensive back Jakylan Irving.

Irving has been a part of the Irish football program since 2018 and have seen the rebuilding days of ursuline, to now being able to compete in every game and a possible state championship. In 2021, Irving has shined as one of the top players on this team with 153 yards receiving and two touchdowns on offense. Defensively he has not had an interception but has been close as he has had 24 total tackles. One of his biggest moments this 2021 season however, a kickoff return with under two minutes to go to give the Irish the go ahead 50-49 win against Warren Harding two weeks ago.

YSN’s very own Ian O’Brien talks with the star wide receiver and defensive back about the huge victory against Warren Harding, the bye week that they had, what he wants to be remembered as when he leaves Ursuline and more. The Irish will head to Green Street Stadium/John Cistone field to take on brother Irish in Akron St. Vincent St. Mary’s (3-3). The last time Ursuline won against Saint Vincent St Mary’s was in 2011 42-31. Kickoff is Friday 7pm on YSN!!
