IRVING UP GREATNESS

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Last week, Dan Reardon and his Youngstown Ursuline Irish escaped a near comeback by a final of 38-31 as they knocked off the then undefeated West Branch Warriors at Clinton Heacock Stadium. In the game, not only do the seniors make some big plays on the field, but so do the juniors who learn from these seniors every day. In that game, one receiver had a 38-yard touchdown, finishing with 49-yards receiving. His touchdown would put the Irish up by 20 at one point too. That player is junior Jakylan Irving who on the field can make a big impact for this Ursuline Irish team.

Some of his other key plays on the offensive side this season was having a total of 202 receiving yards, his biggest coming during the last three played games (Mooney, VASJ, and West Branch), along with some touchdowns to boot. On the defensive side of the ball, he is all over the place like he’s a mix of Richard Sherman and Stephon Gilmore, heck he’s fast like the road runner with 32.5 total tackles, with his best game being against Boardman on the defensive side, getting two interceptions.

On this episode of the YSN Player Profile Playoff Ursuline Football edition, Ian O’Brien catches up with Jakylan Irving as he talks about his position, who he is, if we would have a season due to COVID-19, what he did during quarantine to get ready for the season, who inspired/idolized playing the game, how he improved from his freshman season to now, and more. The Irish (6-2) will head to Dave Pavlansky Field on Saturday to take on the Poland Bulldogs (7-1). Should be a good game as we see speed against speed and power against power in what is going to be one of the biggest games of the week. The game starts at 7pm and you can buy it on YSNLive.com for $9.99. Not only can you get that game, but you can also get all the other games.
