AKRON, OH — The Archbishop Hoban Knights boys basketball team started their season with a commanding 72-59 victory over the Massillon Jackson Polar Bears on Monday night. The home opener showcased Hoban’s balanced offensive attack and strong defensive effort, propelling the Knights to a 1-0 start.
Hoban built an early lead, outscoring Jackson 18-12 in the first quarter and extending the margin to 37-22 by halftime. The Knights maintained their advantage with consistent scoring in the third quarter, heading into the final frame up 53-35. Jackson made a late push, posting 24 points in the fourth quarter, but Hoban’s cushion proved insurmountable.
Kenny Scott led the Knights with 19 points, including two three-pointers, while also dishing out dimes to players like Sam Greer, who contributed 14 points, shooting efficiently inside the paint. Kamran Ensley added 11 points to round out the double-digit scorers for Hoban.
Jackson (1-1) was paced by Kyle Monterrubio, who tallied a game-high 21 points, including a three-pointer and four free throws. Kaiden Loy chipped in 10 points for the Polar Bears, whose late surge fell short.
The Knights will look to continue their momentum on Thursday, Dec. 12, when they host the North Catholic Trojans from Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
