TORONTO, OH- The Toronto Red Knights defeated East Liverpool 12-0 in 5 innings on Wednesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Luke Gulczynski pitched a one-hitter before Zac Berger came in for the fifth frame.
Toronto had the lead from the jump when they fired up the offense in the first inning when Karaffa‘s sac fly scored one run for Toronto Red Knights Varsity. Toronto scored six runs in the second inning. Berger, Tristan Thomas, Nick Chetock, Karaffa, and Nick Sninchak all drove in runs in the frame.
One bright spot for East Liverpool was a single by Cory Weyand in the first inning, it was the only offense the Potters had to speak of on the afternoon.
Lucas Gulczynski earned the win for the Red Knights. He lasted four innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out three. Berger threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Paxton Grimes took the loss for East Liverpool. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out one and walking zero.
Toronto had 14 hits in the game. Chetock, Gulczynski, Sninchak, and Karaffa all managed multiple hits for the Red Knights. Chetock led Toronto with three hits in three at-bats. They also tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Karaffa led the way with two.
Weyand went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead East Liverpool in hits.
