LADY RAIDERS GROUND BLUE JAYS!

The Raider Volleyball team won a non-conference game against Jackson Milton Monday night in 5 sets (25-21 25-19 24-26 17-25 15-11).

In the 1st set, the Raiders offense started off pretty slow taking 13 attacks until getting their first kill. Fortunately for them, Jackson Milton wasn’t able to hit much better. Then Anna Primavera came alive and lead the Raiders to a 25-21 set 1 victory.

The Raider offense stayed hot in set 2 as Abby George and Jenna Barbessi got kills to get the offense in rhythm early. The Raiders had their best hitting set of the match, that paired with 6 service aces and 0 errors helped the Raiders cruise to a 25-19 set 2 win.

Things got sticky in the 3rd and 4th sets for the Raiders as attack errors began to build up and Jackson Milton took advantage and grabbed momentum. They won a close 24-26 set and then ran away with a 17-25 set 4.

The 5th and decisive set the Blue Jays had all the momentum. But strong serving from the Raiders got the Jays out of the system and let the Raiders take an 11-7 lead. Anna Primavera put the set away with a kill down the middle as the Raiders won set 5 15-11

The Raiders hitting percentage went down in the 3rd and 4th sets causing their match hitting percentage to be .072. However, the Raiders served up 17 service aces. 5 from Anna Primavera. Primavera also notched an impressive double-double gathering 21 kills and 14 digs. Mary Kuhns kept the ball up all night finishing with 27 digs. Drew Ferren had 18 assists while Emily Irons had 16.

The Raiders return to NE8 play Tuesday night as they travel to Jefferson Area High School.
