LAKERS MAKE A SPLASH IN PLAYOFF REMATCH

Andover, OH- The Pymatuning Valley Lakers delivered a stunning performance in the first round of the OHSAA playoffs, overpowering the Mineral Ridge Rams with a decisive 37-0 victory. This game was not only a display of skill and strategy but also a rematch of their Week 1 showdown, where the Lakers narrowly triumphed 38-27. This time, however, the Lakers made sure there would be no doubt as they dominated every facet of the game, improving their record to 10-1 and setting their sights on the next challenge against the Dalton Bulldogs (8-3), who come off an impressive 62-0 win over Valley Christian.
From the opening kickoff, Pymatuning Valley showcased their prowess. The Lakers took control early in the first quarter, with 4:10 remaining when senior running back Ryan Croston burst through the Rams’ defense for a 27-yard touchdown run. Ty Vickery added the two-point conversion, putting the Lakers ahead 8-0 and igniting the crowd with their energetic play.
As the game progressed into the second quarter, the Lakers continued to find success on offense. Croston displayed his versatility, connecting with Vickery on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 10:15 left in the half. Elliot Jones, the reliable kicker, converted the extra point to extend the lead to 15-0.
Defensively, the Lakers were relentless. With just 2:13 remaining in the second quarter, they capitalized on a fumble by Mineral Ridge. Jaron Nowakowski scooped up the loose ball and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown, showcasing the Lakers’ ability to not only score but also create opportunities on defense. Jones’s extra point made it 22-0, solidifying their grip on the game as they headed into halftime.
The third quarter saw the Lakers maintain their momentum. With 7:19 left, Vickery found the end zone again, this time with a 5-yard touchdown run. He capped off the drive by converting the two-point attempt himself, bringing the score to 30-0 and effectively putting the game out of reach for the Rams.
In the fourth quarter, the Lakers continued to press, adding one final touchdown when Luke Giddings scored on a 9-yard run with 5:35 remaining in the game. Jones continued his perfect night, converting the extra point to bring the final score to 37-0.
