LISBON VOLLEYBALL TEAM ASKS YOU TO CHOOSE JOY

LISBON, OH- The Lisbon community has overcome so much tragedy and adversity in the last year or so, but through the tragedy comes triumph- and all because one young lady and her family have asked the community to “choose joy.”

On May 22, 2020, the lives of the Edenfield family changed in an unimaginable way, when their youngest of three daughters, Melina Michelle Edenfield — a joyful, energetic, and brilliant little four-year-old — was diagnosed with a deadly childhood brain tumor called Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG). Despite initial hope from the doctors that radiation treatment might extend her already limited prognosis, the tumor was one of the most aggressive the doctors had seen, and just a month and two days later — on June 24 , 2020 — the tumor took sweet little Melina’s life.

Since that moment, Lisbon has rallied around the Edenfield’s, and next week will be no different.  Lisbon will host United for what was last year the “Volley for a Cure” game, and this year has changed to “Volley for Melina” thanks to Lisbon Coach Maddie Wrask, and her team.  September 23rd will mark the game, as the month of September is Childhood Awareness Month, and the team is looking to raise money and awareness for childhood brain tumors.

There will be Chinese auctions as well as items for sale for attendees to support, donations will also be accepted that night as well.

Our DJ Yokley had the honor to sit down with Coach Wrask and a few members of her team, as well as Keith Edenfield to discuss the event, and what it means to them.
