LIVING THE DREAM: ALI AGUILAR
SACRAMENTO CA- Ali Aguilar’s softball journey began in her hometown of Roseville, California, where she made a name for herself at Casa Roble High School. Graduating with a 3.8 GPA, Ali racked up numerous accolades, including the 2010 Cal-Hi State Softball Freshman of the Year and the 2013 All-Metro Softball Player of the Year. Her standout performances earned her a spot on the 2013 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team, marking the start of a promising career.
At Washington, Ali hit the ground running in her freshman season, starting 49 of the Huskies’ 52 games, with 47 of those starts at shortstop. She played in all but one game, starting all 22 in Pac-12 play, and made a significant impact in the NCAA tournament, belting two home runs and driving in eight runs. Her first college hit came in her second start on February 8 at UNLV, where she went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer. It was clear from the beginning that Ali was destined to leave a lasting mark on Washington softball.
Fast forward to her senior season, Ali started and played in 57 games at shortstop, with one game as the designated player. She led the team in runs (62) and home runs (14), boasting a .352 season average. With 17 multi-hit and 11 multi-RBI games, she earned honors as a NFCA Third Team All-American, Senior CLASS All-American Second Team, and was a Senior CLASS Award Finalist. Ali’s stellar college career culminated in her being drafted 13th overall in the 2017 National Pro Fastpitch draft by the Scrapyard Dogs.
After college, Ali joined Team USA to chase her Olympic dreams, a reality made possible by the reinstatement of softball in the 2020 Tokyo Games. In 2017, she was part of the Pan American Championship Gold Medalist team, hitting .407 with four home runs, nine RBIs, and 11 runs scored. She also contributed to the 2017 World Cup of Softball Silver Medalist team with a .353 average, one home run, four RBIs, and eight runs scored. Ali continued her success with the 2018 WBSC Gold Medal USA team, hitting .310 with two home runs, 10 RBIs, and eight runs scored. Her professional career included stints in Athletes Unlimited and the WPF with the USSSA Pride.
Despite her impressive stats and numerous accolades, Ali is most proud of her faith and how she has shared it with those around her. She is actively involved in the “Church In The Dirt” movement, which integrates faith and softball through weekly devotionals, camps, and a podcast series where athletes share their faith journeys.
Ali Aguilar has graced the biggest stages in softball, and we are honored to have her share her journey and experiences with the YSN softball community. We hope you enjoy the latest installment of “Living The Dream” with Ali Aguilar.
