LUTZ LOCKED IN
As we gear up for another softball season, Canfield Cardinals softball senior second baseman, Sydney Lutz is looking to make her final year in the red and black a memorable one! Fresh off a Division II state championship from last year, the expectations have been set high for a Cardinals squad looking for a repeat!
With her partner in crime, Marina Koenig, opposite of her on the middle infield, Lutz values that chemistry and relationship that has been built with Koenig since they were 10 years old. “Just having her there makes me feel comfortable, she’s my best friend, and I love playing with her. Lutz, like Marina Koenig, also had one of her dreams realized this past year when she was able to make her commitment to continue her academic and athletic career at Slippery Rock University, “As soon as I got on campus, it just really felt like home.” Lutz said.
A staple to The Cardinals success on both sides of the ball, Lutz is looking to improve both the batting average and defensive consistency this year, but first and foremost, staying in the moment with her teammates is her top priority. “We’ve been working, we are ready, and we are motivated. I think we are going to surprise a lot of people.” Lutz said.
All of that, plus an always entertaining round of rapid fire questions with The Cardinals senior in this edition of Player Profile! Gear up and get ready for opening day as The Cards open the season on Saturday, March 22nd against The Minerva Lions. Catch Sydney Lutz and the rest of The Cardinals softball team this season on YSN.
