GIRARD OH- Have you ever tried stepping into a position that you’ve never been in before? If your answer is yes then you know exactly how hard it is. That is what Girard Senior Maddie Malito had to find the fortitude to accomplish this year. Over the summer Malito was asked to transition to be a middle blocker. With her size, you can imagine she was initially unconfident in her ability to accomplish the task. But coach Walters did a great job seeing what she could do before Maddie even saw it. When she got her first block over the summer her confidence slowly but surely grew.  It was really her vertical leap that was the difference maker.  Malito’s athleticism makes her the perfect middle blocker.

Her leadership has shined through this transition as well. Imagine the lesson all the younger players had sitting right in front of them.  To do whatever the team needs you to do, no matter how far outside your comfort zone it may be. Maddie finished with 27 blocks on the season. 24 of them were solo blocks. Malito was exceptionally good at winning those 1 on 1 matchups.

Maddie took the time to hop on to YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about her senior season. She talks to Anthony Hartwig about living up to her last name, what the transition to the middle has been like, and so much more.  Check out the last Girard senior edition of Indian Volleyball Player Profile only on YSN!
