MAPLEWOOD BATTLES REGIONAL POWERHOUSE

CORTLAND OH-  Maplewood came up short on Wednesday, dropping a 4-2 battle to Mathews on the road.

The Mustangs got on the board early with a sac fly in the first, then added one more in the second on a base hit to right. Another RBI knock in the third pushed it to 3-0 before the Rockets started to claw back.

Maplewood got on the board late with some timely hitting, picking up RBIs in the fifth and sixth, but couldn’t quite complete the comeback. The bats showed flashes, collecting five hits on the day, but Mathews’ pitching kept them from stringing anything big together.

Maplewood’s starter went the distance, tossing seven innings while giving up four runs—three of them earned—and striking out six. The Mustangs’ starter, meanwhile, was sharp through five, giving up just one run on four hits and fanning eight.

Despite the loss, Maplewood got hits from five different players, and two players chipped in with RBIs to keep the game tight. The Rockets will look to bounce back Friday when they travel to Badger.
