MAZEI HAS NIGHT TO REMEMBER, CLIPS FLY HIGH

LEETONIA, OH-  Columbiana’s Matt Mazei picked up his first varsity victory Tuesday afternoon as the Clippers picked up their 10th win of the season with a 6-2 victory over the Leetonia Bears.  Mazei gave up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2 in his complete game win.

Offensively, the Clippers struggled to get the timely hit but after Leetonia tied the game at 2 in the 5th, Columbiana was able to respond with 4 runs in the top of the 6th to put the game out of reach.  Leading the way offensively for the Clippers were Joe Bable and Hunter Zentner.  Bable had 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI while Zentner added 2 singles and scored a run.  In addition to picking up the victory, Mazei also got his first varsity knock with a 2nd inning single to right.

Defensively, Columbiana was strong all game not committing an error and were led by Wayne Davis at 3rd base.  Davis recorded an assist and 3 putouts on the afternoon.

The Clippers are back in action Wednesday afternoon for an OHSAA Sectional Semi-Final match-up with Campbell Memorial at Roosevelt Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.
