NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Haleigh McCalla was brilliant in the pitcher’s circle on Friday, as she threw her third no-hitter of the season to lead Springfield past Struthers 5-0.
The Tigers opened up scoring in the first inning. They scored two runs when Emily Gerthung singled.
McCalla was the winning pitcher for Springfield. McCalla went seven innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out 16 and walking one.
The Tigers tallied ten hits. Gerthung and Gianna Piccuta each managed multiple hits. Gerthung led the way with three hits in three at bats. Springfield was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Rachel Malatok had the most chances in the field with 16.
