LEAVITTSBURG OH- It was a special night for Garfield as one of their captains and leaders came in to Thursday night needing 7 points to grab 1,000 in her career. Laura McCoy had a lot on her mind in the flow of the game. The Vikings knew very well what the moment was, and tried everything in their power to not be the team that gave up a milestone moment. In the end McCoy needed 7, and got 7 as the G-Men rolled their way to a 68-30 win.
Garfield was led by Madeline Shirkey who scored 15 points while the Vikings defense put attention on McCoy. Mandy Cardinal also prospered from the extra space getting in to double figures with 13. That wasn’t it for the G-Men scoring either, Nora Trent punched in to double figures scoring 12. Maggie Fogel added 6 points to the cause.
LaBrae was led by Jah’nya Dorsey who scored a game-high 18 points. She knocked down three treys on the night on her way to that number.
Garfield will move on to host Campbell Memorial on Thursday. They will recognize McCoy and her milestone before the game. LaBrae will travel to Burton Berkshire’s Hoopfest on Saturday and play the host Badgers at 6:30.
