MCDONALD ENDS UP THE BETTER BLUE DEVIL
MCDONALD OH- Aubrey Evans was locked in on Monday, striking out 10 and leading McDonald to a 14-2 win over Western Reserve in five innings.
Evans gave up just three hits and two runs, walking only one while keeping the Reserve bats in check all game long. She also helped her cause at the plate, drawing three walks and swiping multiple bags in a game where McDonald ran wild.
Western Reserve struck first with a two-run homer from Averie Hendon in the top of the first, but McDonald didn’t flinch. Alexis Hvisdak tied things up in the second with a single, and the Blue Devils took the lead in the third after Hvisdak got plunked with the bases loaded and Kylie Gherardi followed with an RBI single.
Then came the fourth. McDonald dropped a 10-spot in the inning to break it wide open. Colarich drove in a run after getting hit by a pitch, Hvisdak and Gherardi each walked in a run, Miley Titus knocked in two with a single, Kayla Helco added another RBI single, and Gianna Mancini cleared the bases with a double. By the time it was over, the scoreboard read 14-2.
Hvisdak led the RBI count with three despite having just one official at-bat, while Mancini finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits.
McDonald’s speed on the bases was out of control—26 stolen bases as a team. Helco, Evans, Mancini, Titus, Colarich, and Hvisdak all swiped multiple bags. And the defense held up their end too—no errors behind Evans, with Addison Grewell racking up 10 chances.
Western Reserve had a solid day from leadoff hitter Kylee Ramsey, who went 2-for-3, and Hendon added the only RBI of the game with her early homer. Defensively, Reserve played clean with no errors, and Chloeigh Endsley led them with eight chances in the field. McDonald heads to Poland on Thursday for their next test.
