MCDONALD HANDS CLIPPERS THEIR FIRST LOSS

Columbiana watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 2-0 loss to McDonald on Friday. McDonald took the lead on a single in the second inning.

The pitching was strong on both sides. McDonald pitchers struck out 16, while Clippers sat down ten.

McDonald got things started in the second inning. Lucia Wolford drove in two.

One bright spot for Clippers was a single by Ava Davanzo in the second inning.

Bri Callow led the Blue Devils to victory in the pitcher’s circle. Callow surrendered zero runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out 16 and walking zero.

Tori Long took the loss for the Clippers. The righty went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out eight and walking zero.

Davanzo led Columbiana with two hits in three at bats.

Wolford went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead McDonald in hits.
