MCDONALD WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT MVAC CHAMPIONSHIP

Both teams were strong in the pitcher’s circle Thursday, but McDonald defeated Western Reserve 3-1. Isabella O’Brien allowed just four hits in the circle. The win gives McDonald their seventh straight MVAC championship dating back to 2016.

McDonald pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Bri McCombs grounded out, scoring one run, Kylie Koma grounded out, scoring one run, and Addison Edwards singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

O’Brien was the winning pitcher for the Blue Devils. O’Brien allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out 14 and walking one.

Hannah Heath started the game for Western Reserve. The righty lasted five innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Maggie Byers threw one inning in relief.

Jenna Helco led McDonald’s offense with two hits in three at bats.
