MCDONALD’S GRAND SLAM CHANGES THE TIDE

CANFIELD) The Poland Lady Bulldogs pulled-out an upset 5-3 victory over 224 rival Canfield in a contest that saw great hitting from both sides.

Junior right fielder Meredith Trevis got Poland on the board with a double after sophomore first baseman Leanne Williams doubled off the left field wall.
Junior Katie McDonald gave up 8 hits and 2 earned runs over seven innings collecting her 12th victory of the year as Poland’s lead hurler.  She helped her cause in the top of the 6th with the Bulldogs up against the wall with their last 6 outs and down 3-1.  Senior center fielder Connie Cougras walked with one out, followed by singles from Mary Brant and Abbey Farber.  With the bases loaded, McDonald hit the second pitch she saw from Malena Toth and the line drive cleared the fence and all the bases, giving Poland a 5-3 advantage.   Emily Denney collected 2 hits including a double in the contest.
For Canfield, Bayann Jadallah had 3 hits including 2 doubles and an RBI, along with Isabella Kennedy who had 2 hits and an RBI.  The Bulldogs return to Northeast 8 Conference play tomorrow in Poland against Struthers.
