MOONEY OPENS SECTIONALS WITH A BANG

YOUNGSTOWN OH-  Cardinal Mooney defeated Campbell 18-0 on Tuesday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. The win advances them into the next round of the district bracket.  Zach Hyrb induced a groundout from Maliki Taylor to finish off the game.

Jack Desmond led the Cardinals to victory by driving in four runs. Desmond went 2-for-3 at the plate. Desmond drove in runs on a single in the second and a double in the same inning.

A single by Anthony Kindinis in the second inning was a positive for Campbell.

Bronson Ferencak was credited with the victory for Cardinal Mooney. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over two and a third innings, striking out six. Jeff Brenner and Hyrb entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Zach Lucinino took the loss for the Red Devils. Lucinino surrendered 12 runs on eight hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two.

Cardinal Mooney hit two home runs on the day. Logan Boyd had a long ball in the third inning. Brenner put one out in the third inning.

The Cardinals tallied 12 hits in the game. Hyrb, Brenner, Gabe Saunders, Jim Campbell, and Desmond each collected multiple hits. Desmond, Campbell, Saunders, Brenner, and Hyrb each managed two hits to lead.
